Expansion of Mix Network / Launch of Mix Radio 103.3 FM in Linden
The ANSA McAL Group of companies bought IRadio Inc. in August 2015 and renamed the Station MIX FM. It was operated on the 90.1 frequency in Demerara and on 91.5 in Berbice. Both of these transmitters were upgraded in December of last year, according the the company’s Press Release. This year, at the end of July, the company installed a transmitter in Linden to extend network transmitting on 103.3 FM. This was done with an infrastructural partnership with E-Networks in Berbice and Digicel in Linden. The transmission equipment is state of the art, according to the company and has increased signal, stability and clarity.
Chairman of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority, Mr. Leslie Sobers was also present at the launch and during his speech he noted that I Radio is fully licenced and commended the company for its exceptional performance with respect to its conduct on the airwaves. He however noted that IRadio was only required to meet with the Special Investigative Committee of the GNBA once, for a minor infraction. The Chairman of the GNBA encouraged the company to broadcast more local and/or indigenous content, including content from the caribbean region which shares a similar history to Guyana. He noted that the airwaves are proliferated with foreign content which sometimes have a negative effect on our young impressionable minds.
According to Managing Director of ANSA McAL Trading Guyana Limited, Ms. Beverly Harper, what is of equal importance to its customers and listeners is the fact that Mix FM is officially licenced in three zones and customers can be assured of their advertising message legally reaching these zones. She explained that Mix FM plays more music and less talk; and reaches over 600,000 listeners and is easily the best radio solution for advertisers.
